Comic Book Character of the Week: Misty Knight

Mercedes ‘Misty’ Knight was a NYPD police officer and one of the best on the force. She made it to lieutenant before she tragically lost her arm when she discovered a bomb and tried to discard it. The bomb blew her arm off and she was forced to do office work until she was granted a cybernetic arm from Tony Stark that had amazing levels of super strength that could crush metal and break so-called unbreakable glass. Soon after this, Misty had a few run-ins with Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and even became the Latter’s girlfriend and trained with him.

Misty would go on to team with Colleen Wing, an old friend of hers on the force, to form the Daughters of the Dragon, working with Luke Cage and Iron Fist at times. During a confrontation with Ricadonna, Misty’s arm got busted once again (sliced clean off) and Tony Stark gifted her a new and improved one. This new arm was made of antarctic vibranium, known as Anti-Metal, which can melt any metal it touches, including Adamantium (the hardest metal in the universe). Her new arm also gives her the ability to shoot repulsor blasts, and gives her the strength to break the jaw of Spider-Man villain Rhino.

Since then, Misty has joined the Heroes for Hire with her boyfriend Iron Fist, has fought on the opposite side of Iron Fist in Civil War (she was Pro-Registration, he was not), and has become the leader of the Fearless Defenders, onside of Valkyrie.

Misty doesn’t have any super powers, all of her ‘super’ coming from her arm’s capabilities, but she is an accomplished and skilled martial artist, having been trained by some of the best (Iron Fist, Shang Chi). Even before her training, she was a skilled fighter that was able to catch Iron Fist off guard in some of their meetings. Misty has used her skill and arm to take down Viking skeletons, Rhino (as mentioned before), Batroc the Leaper, and other villains as she helps keep the world safe. She’s even infiltrated Hydra by going undercover.

You can catch Misty in the Netflix Series, Luke Cage and on the upcoming Netflix Series, Marvel’s Defenders.
