Hulk vs. Superman Part 1

Hulk

Hello all,

Today I’m analyzing the well known, often argued, and polarizing debate of, “who would win in a fight: Hulk or Superman?”

Now I’m going a bit hardcore here, not using cartoons, movies, crossovers, anything non-canon essentially, and only using their comic book feats to determine who would win. And today, part 1 of this analysis is dedicated to Hulk and the argument as to why he would win.

Now we all know Hulk has many versions, Grey, Savage (the one EVERYONE knows and the default Hulk), Professor, Mindless, World War/World Breaker Hulk, and the current, Indestructible Hulk. I’m gonna split this up into Grey and Savage, World Breaker and Indestructible, and Mindless and Professor.

Let’s address Savage Hulk.

Savage Hulk has this move called the Thunderclap, where he claps his hands together, creating a shockwave of destruction, that is also deafening.

His Thunderclap isn’t just something that works on humans or fodder either. It’s something he’s used successfully against many heavy hitters such as Gladiator, Hyperion, Hercules, Iron Man, and more. Even more, he’s used it against the likes of Wolverine (as Grey Hulk) and nearly killed him because of his acute or super hearing. Guess who else has super hearing? That’s right. Superman.

Even better, his Thunderclap has worked on and caught the likes of Quicksilver, who we know is faster than sound, has even outpaced lightning, and on occasion outran radio waves (which would make him faster than light). So if Supes tries to use his speed to his advantage, Thunderclap can even the odds, if not tip them to Hulks favor.

Also, Hulk has taken many different types of attacks that suggest that Superman’s alternate ways of fighting (besides his fist), heat vision and freeze breath wouldn’t exactly work. There have been instances where Hulk has flat out been encased in ice (some strong enough to hold a mountain in place) and he has always broken out. He’s also survived being hit with the heat of a mini-sun, as well as Human Torch’s nova blast (hotter than the sun), though Hulk was slightly amped at the time. He’s also tanked lighting several times, which is also hotter than the sun.

Last but not least for Hulk (in both Savage and Grey form), is that he has a healing factor that mends injuries such as gaping wounds to the stomach and giant sword wounds in his chest, almost instantly. So even if Superman does hurt him, Hulk will regenerate and get even madder.

Now for Mindless Hulk…

Mindless Hulk is essentially a buffed version of Savage Hulk. He has taken on the likes of Hercules, Namor, Iron Man, etc. at the same time, and has matched Thor a few times (not that Savage Hulk doesn’t fight Thor too).

Mindless Hulk’s best feats that I’ll use for this match up are where he beat down and embarrassed Gladiator after taking his eye beams to the chest (a gaping hole seemingly, but it healed) and when he faced Onslaught and broke his armor. Both feats suggest that if Supes doesn’t go all out, Mindless Hulk will kill him.

Addressing Professor Hulk…

Professor Hulk is stronger than the rest of the Hulks discussed so far and has easily taken attacks from adamantium, has healed his brain stem in seconds, and taken lightning with ease. In fact, he became Maestro in this form and fought a newly empowered Thor to a standstill for hours. He also took out a Power Gem wielding Drax (who has destroyed planets by clashing with Thanos) and has healed so fast, that the wound enclosed around his hand as he was nursing it.

Also, once he had the flesh flayed off of his bones, charged through the beam, took the guy out, and healed in minutes. This Hulk is not to be messed with, and with an enhanced healing factor, smarts, strength, etc. Superman better hope this isn’t the Hulk he faces either.

Part 2 will address World Breaker/World War Hulk, Indestructible Hulk, and more about Hulk in general.

Stay tuned…
