Comic Book Character of the Week: Falcon

Falcon

Falcon, also known as Sam Wilson, is known mostly for being one of the few black superheroes, and being Captain America’s sidekick. He has the power to telepathically communicate with birds (mostly his personal bird Redwing) as well as peak human physical abilities and martial arts training from Captain America himself. He gained his powers when Red Skull used the Cosmic Cube on him in a plot to take out Captain America, and has ironically been on Cap’s side ever since.

Falcon fighting skills

Falcon’s abilities allow him to have constant surveillance over large areas (due to the sheer amount of birds) and he can even call birds to swarm on his opponents. Originally he had a more normal set of wings that helped him to fly, but then he met Black Panther (another superhero).

Black Panther made him a set of wings that had a vibranium microweave, a cyber-link, infrared tracking, and other functions. The wings were “holographic” in a way and were made of hard light, were mentally controlled by the aforementioned cyber-link, and had a lot of different settings and cruise speeds.

Falcon has been part of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Avengers, the Secret Avengers and more. He has worked with many heroes from Captain America to Luke Cage to Black Panther, and has fought many villains from Red Skull to Kingpin to Electro.

He is a master at aerial combat (cited by Marvel to be better than the likes of Iron Man and Ms. Marvel), a master at acrobatics, and can hold his own in any hand to hand combat, though he tends to stay in the air to provide support and surveillance. His aerial mastery and acrobatic ability allow him to dodge many attacks on air or land, and time and time again, he has helped some of the greatest heroes to save the world.

Falcon sees through birds

He is a hero that soars above most, and deserves respect for his role in saving the world many times. In fact, if you want to see him in action, you can check him out in his big screen debut Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.
